Cills - Does the Cill depth matter?
Yes, it is very important that the depth (front to back – for example 150mm) will provide enough overhang to protect the outer brickwork
Cills - Is the Cill included in the overall height?
Yes, always include the cill.
Cills - What is a Cill?
This is what protects the outer brickwork from any runoff water, it projects out at the bottom. If you chose to not have a cill, an alternative form of drainage would be required.
Composite Doors - Can a window be joined to a door
This depends on the product as not all have couplers that are the correct depth.
General - Are the hinges visible?
Yes, we are not able to offer concealed.
General - Are the products viewed from inside or outside?
Always view products from the outside.
General - What is a mullion?
This is the width of the opening part of the window (sash). Minimum width is 450mm.
General - What is a Tilt and Turn window?
This is a casement that opens into the room. It cannot open out like casement windows. It has two functions -1. Tilts into the room and 2. Opens fully into the room providing a clear opening. It does have a larger profile compared to casement windows but this is required due to the gearing used.
General - Can I have two different colours on my product?
This is product dependent. It is not possible on triple track sliding doors.
General - Whats the difference between Contemporary / Premium and Designer Windows?
Contemporary are the Smart Alitherm 300 range whereas Premium and Designer are Alunet ACW81. If you require triple glazed and/or flush casement – the Designer casement will be your choice.
General - Where does the Triple Vent go?
Both the 33mm and 47.5mm profile require an add on to the head of the frame to allow for a trickle vent.
General - What is a Transom drop?
This is the depth of the opening from the top of the frame. Minimum drop is 320mm.
Glass - Does it need to be fully glazed?
No, there are options – Fully glazed / Mid rail with glass top and bottom / Mid rail with glass at top and panel at bottom.
Glass - What is self cleaning glass?
Neutral Self Cleaning Glass
Self-cleaning glass uses a microscopic coating with a unique dual-action.
The first stage is “photocatalytic” – the coating reacts with daylight to break down organic dirt.
The second stage is “hydrophilic” – instead of forming droplets, rainwater hits the glass and spreads evenly, running off in a “sheet” and taking the loosened dirt with it, also drying quickly without leaving streaks
Blue Solar Control Self Cleaning Glass
Solar control glass can be used to minimise solar heat gain and help control glare. In temperate regions, it can be used to balance solar control with high levels of natural light. Solar control glass is ideal for large folding doors where solar heat gain could be an issue.
This attractive blue glass, combines dual-action, self-cleaning properties with solar control performance for a cooler internal environment. Specially designed for the optimum unit ideal for folding doors. It uses daylight and rainwater to breakdown and wash away organic dirt from exterior surfaces. Its unique blue colour also helps keep internal temperatures cool whilst still maintaining excellent light transmittance.
Glass - What is toughened glass?
Glass only requires to be toughened in critical locations as defined by part “N” of the building regulations.
Part N (Glazing) deals primarily with safe breakage of glazing in critical locations, manifestation of glazing to prevent collision, safe cleaning of windows in commercial buildings, prevention of falling from windows and glazed openings.

Aluminium Products:
RAL 7016 Grey Matt & RAL 9010 White Gloss = MINIMUM 4 weeks
RAL 9005 Black Matt = MINIMUM 4 weeks
All other single RAL colours = MINIMUM 4 weeks
For any other RAL colour, except dual colour, we purchase mill finished extrusions to suit each individual order. This is then then powder coated separately. This process normally results in a 4 week lead time***
Dual colour Grey on White = MINIMUM 4 weeks
Dual colour Black on White = MINIMUM 4 weeks
Dual RAL colours = MINIMUM 4 weeks
Aluminium extrusions are as standard made up of an outside and inside aluminium section which has been rolled onto a separate polyamide thermal break.
All stock held by our suppliers of mill finished extrusions are held fully assembled. These sections can only be painted the same colour both sides.
To achieve a dual colour section, our suppliers have to first extrude the aluminium sections required to suit each individual order. Each section is then sent to be painted. Once painted these sections are then sent to a third party company to roll the two sections together onto the polyamide thermal break. It is then dispatched back to our supplier who schedule it to us for delivery. This process creates the 4-6 week lead time. ***
*** When extrusions are dispatched to us from our suppliers they are individually shrink wrapped for protection. This wrapping cannot be removed until it is required for production.
If at this stage it is found that the paint finish is not acceptable or damaged this will delay the delivery on all products other than stocked Grey 7016 Matt and White 9010 Gloss. This could be up to 21 days on standard RAL colours to allow for repainting.
On dual colours this could be another 4-5 weeks as same the manufacturing process by our suppliers has to be carried out. This is industry wide and there is nothing that can speed up the process. Although this is a very rare occurrence you must be aware at the point of order that this is a possibility and you should allow for this in your project management. At no time is the delivery time the essence of the contract and Slide & Fold Ltd will not accept any claim in relation to a delayed delivery.
