Document Q - Security
The new ‘Approved Document Q’, came into effect on the 1st October 2015 for use in England*. Document Q requires that windows and doors are tested to a clear laid out security standard. This currently only affects window and doors that are to be installed into New Dwellings , not on properties built before October 2015 or any NEW extension from 2016 onwards, that is on a pre-built 2016 property and is only applicable to products that are:-
- Within 2m from accessible level surface e.g. ground/ basement/ balcony.
- Or 2m from an external 'flat roof' with a pitch less than 30 degrees and less than 3.5m from ground level.
Document Q does not apply to work started before 1st October 2015, or work subject to a building notice, full plans application or initial notice submitted before that date, provided the work is started on site before 1st October 2016, or replacement & refurbishment Projects or commercial Projects.

Compliance and Responsibility
- If your windows or doors are to replace existing, or they are to be installed on an extension to an existing property built before October 2015, compliance to document Q is not required.
- If your windows or doors are to be installed into a new built house, or to a property that has had a change of use i.e. conversion of church/barn/shop to a habitable dwelling built after October 2015 then you will need to comply with Document Q.
- Without any prior written agreement all products supplied are not Document Q compliant.
- Slide and Fold, at request, can supply windows and doors that are Document Q compliant.
- To ensure an accurate quotation, it is wholly the responsibility of the customer to inform Slide and Fold Ltd in writing, at the point of quotation that products supplied should comply with Document Q. All prices currently quoted online are not compliant.
- All orders placed that are required to be Document Q approved, have to be confirmed in writing from Slide and Fold that they are Document Q compliant.
- Notwithstanding all of the above, it is
wholly the responsibility of the customer to consult with their local authority that all windows and doors supplied conform to the building regulations of your specific build. No liability will be accepted by Slide and Fold for miss-interpretation of this regulation.
